The Birth Doula Program has four tiers of team members:

  • Doulas in training
  • Experienced doulas
  • Mentor doulas
  • Volunteer support

To apply for one of our positions, please follow the link here. Our recruitment takes place in the spring and fall of each year or as needed. We thank you for your application, but only those chosen will be contacted.

Training Program (10 spots available, recruitment twice per year)

Doulas will:
• Have done a training in the past 4 years with an AOD-approved training organization
• Have attended the breastfeeding course or done the online coursework
• Have less than 5 births of experience following their training
• Successfully complete an interview with one of the management team
• Be a member of the Association of Ontario Doulas (AOD)
• Attend team meetings (webinar and in-person meetings)
• Work with a mentor doula, conducting follow-up as required
• Complete necessary paperwork (contract, client reports, etc)

Requirements:
• Attend consults with clients, scheduled within one week of request
• Follow-up with clients and with management about outcome and updates
• Be available 24/7 for clients for labour
• Get to clients within an hour of request when in labour
• Respond to non-urgent client communication promptly (24 hours)
• Do two prenatal visits with clients in their home or a place of their choosing
• Do one postpartum visit with clients within 2 weeks of the birth, as required by the client
• Attend in-person and webinar meetings. In-person meetings are REQUIRED to be a part of the team.

• Submit profile for website
• Submit all required paperwork

What you get:
• Team support (back-up doula)
• A stipend to help you cover your expenses (parking, childcare, gas)
• Regular webinar meetings to help you learn and grow as a doula (consult training, inclusive language, prenatal visit content, etc)
• An opportunity to serve clients who would otherwise not have been able to afford a doula
• An experienced mentor who will:
• Work with you to help you prepare for your prenatal/postpartum visits
• Discuss how your client meetings are going and help you adjust for the next one
• Help you mentally prepare for your births
• Be on-call 24/7 in case you need help during the birth and need to talk to someone
• Guide you through your certification process (help you understand and complete paperwork, etc)

Experienced Doula Program (5 spots available, recruitment twice per year)

Doulas will:
• Be certified with an AOD-approved training organization
• Have at least 20 births of experience
• Successfully complete an interview with one of the management team
• Be a member of the AOD
• Attend team meetings
• Complete necessary paperwork (contract, client reports, etc)

Requirements:
• Attend consults with clients, scheduled within one week of request

• Be available 24/7 for clients for labour

• $735 fee per client (plus HST if applicable)
• Regular webinar meetings to help you learn and grow as a doula (consult training, inclusive language, prenatal visit content, etc)

Mentor Program (3 spots available, recruitment as needed)

Doulas will:
• Be certified with an AOD-approved training organization
• Have at least 20 births of experience and 3+ years of doula experience
• Possess demonstrated leadership skills
• Successfully complete an interview with one of the management team
• Be a member of the AOD

Requirements:
• Have regular phone communication with their mentee to get to know them, and before and after each prenatal visit, birth, and postpartum visit
• Be on-call 24/7 in case there are any issues during the birth
• Be responsive to non-urgent questions (within approx. 24 hours)
• Complete paperwork as required by the program

What you get:
• Team support
• $100 stipend per mentee per birth (plus HST if applicable)
• The ability to share your valuable experience and expertise while helping new doulas grow their skills and confidence
• Note: the goal is to follow a mentee for up to 5 births
